The applicant submits an international application to the parties to the Madrid Protocol.
Record and publish:
The trade mark will be recorded in the International Register and published in the WIPO Gazette (World Intellectual Property Organization Gazette).
Notification by designated Contracting States:
The Ministry of International Affairs will notify each designated country.
The international trade mark application will be processed in the designated country using a procedure similar to the trade mark application process in that country.
To submit an international application in Singapore:
Since Singapore is a party to the Madrid Protocol, applicants may apply directly for international trade mark registration through IPOS.
Before submitting an international trade mark application, the applicant must meet the following requirements:
- The applicant must have an application or registration document (stamped with the “Singapore Trade Mark”) as a basis
- Goods or services required in international applications must be stamped with the “Singapore Trade Mark”
- Applicants must be Singapore residents, or have a business in Singapore, or have a real and effective industrial or commercial organization in Singapore
To submit an international application, the applicant must pay the following fees to the Intellectual Property Office of Singapore and the World Intellectual Property Organization
The Intellectual Property Office of Singapore (IPOS) will charge an international application fee of S $ 250;
WIPO receives a handling fee in Swiss francs according to the following specifications:
(i) whether the trade mark is printed in black and white or in colour
(ii) the designated Contracting State
(iii) the number of classes of goods and services in which the trade mark is sought to be protected

Designating Singapore as a Contracting Party in International Applications
Overseas applicants can submit international applications to foreign member states under the Madrid Protocol and designate Singapore as a Contracting Party in the application. This type of application is called International Registration (IR) or Subsequent Designation (SD) Designation Singapore. The IR / SD review process is the same as Singapore’s domestic trade mark application.
